I’m 71 yrs old now… when I was 35 or so, I found myself divorced from what I thought was a life long companion. She hit the road and I raised three kids by myself… with their help. We live within a few miles of each other today, we are close… its a ‘family’ thing.

Finding myself in that position was hard for a guy raised as I was in a small town. When I rode my bike as a kid of twelve years old, I just took it as normal that a big honking, kid-eating f***ing big ass dog would come out to eat me… it wasn’t a big deal… you just peddled your ass off to gain some speed and out ran the dog. Your heart pounded quite a bit.

As a divorced, older, former twelve year old, I needed a little help understanding how to out run a big f***ing man eating dog as a divorcee raising kids… and trying to understand life.

Eric Berne.

I read Nietzsche… good gawd.. good luck understanding him or Kant… I did not then nor now have the time nor interest. You have to dig in deep like a tick to understand those guys. Arthur Schopenhauer was cool… he would go to a restaurant and leave a gold coin on the table (in view of the waiter) … he had a personal bet that if the conversation around him was ever different than politics or sports he would leave the coin as a tip. He was known for not leaving tips. He was before the American Civil War… say 1830s… when he was hungry.

Eric Berne.

I read Sigmund Freud… good luck with the Id, Ego, and Super Ego.

Eric Berne brought the bulls**t of Freud down to my small town level of intelligence.

I found out that being smart is finding out how to understand what smart people are saying.

I’ve been watching the “Games People Play” for 35 years now… The good Dr. was and still is my crutch.

Oh… and if you are youngish… and really want to understand where the so called “cutting edge” of current psychology is then try to understand… and let me make you understand that being smart is not easy.

Jordan Peterson may not have ever even heard of my guy ‘Eric Berne’. It does not matter, I have… and I am the one explaining this game…Berne interpreted Freud… at a bit later time… Jordan Peterson interpreted the Bible. (Jordan Peterson is still doing it now)… I dare you. Find your own footnotes.

Study these two… they were smart… you are not. Yet.

    “I’m 71 yrs {omit old} now”
“life long companion.” It’s never too late.
“dig in deep…to understand those guys.” The said “they” are not meant to be understood but to provoke thought and dialogue (or rhetoric).
My Daddy used to say “trying to understand life” is like contemplating your navel.

    • Smiling… you are such an optimist… i love you peeps…

My son is 52ish… he mentioned the other day something I said when he was 13 or 14… ( he remembered it)… I asked him if he thought Jesus had a navel. I thought I was just throwing him a bone to get him to think. It stayed with him! I thought I was an agnostic then…now I am not so sure.

Just kidding… you are in California… what do you think of giving 1.3 million dollars to every black person for “reparations”? The communists running your state have the offer up for serious deliberation.

And not kidding…some black guy in Tampa (just up the road from me) is spouting off that he wants 3 million (you know…dollars) in reparations…

The “other side of my politics” are offering these carrots… the great unwashed populace are taking it seriously… and I mean really ‘seriously’…

I guess thats life… but I do not understand it…

Games can be and are serious things.. they have consequences. But to perhaps end with a positive note… Dr. Berne, as I remember, loved a good game of poker.

Might I suggest a night for you to watch “Fried Green Tomatoes” … it brought a good feeling to my crotchety old oil field roughneck’s heart.
