This article is interesting… I can bicker here and there… but overall I think it is pretty accurate:

If all this is reasonably accurate… Edward Bryan of Nansemond bought half the patent of his son in law William Bush in 1716 on Barbique Swamp in Chowan “Precinct”. The deed was witnessed by John Bryan who would be the brother of said Mary Bush. The soon to be second husband of Mary also witnessed the deed.
