by 1774 this Arthur has moved to Duplin County… dies in 1814 or so… but during 1760s he was in Nash Co near Sapponey Creek…

==============================================================

Your chronology and my notes…. This is all about the JOSEPH WALL property… I found Joseph Wall buying property near Meherrin River and all the relevant Pitmans of that area… he sells out in 1738 and moves to “White Oak Swamp… he also has adjoining property to Robert Pitman in White Oak.  This property on White Oak “winds up” in the hands of William Pitman who then sells some of it……… the major question is how did William get it?    This Joseph Wall SENIOR moves to Edgecombe “Precinct” in 1738 at the same time as the 3 Pitman brothers. …………… bottom line… I think William is another son of Robert.    There are simply missing documents concerning Wall and Robert’s estates.

I’m 99.9% convinced the White Oak swamp William married Judith Ross.

—————

David’s case for William being the son of John Pitman (1746):

Regarding that tract of 210 acres on White Oak Swamp.
Composed of two tracts :  150 patented by Joseph Wall, and 50 acres from McLemore)

Joseph Wall apparently gets 150 acres as a grant (date not determined)

Joseph Wall sells 150 acres to Thomas HIcks in 1742 (DB 5, page 134)

Thomas Hicks sells 150 acres to John Pittman in 1746 (DB 3, page 45)

Drury McLemore sells 60 acres of this to John Pittman in 1763 (DB C, p[age 67)

John Pittman sells 210 acres (150 plus 60) to Robert Armstrong in 1763 (DB C. [age 70)

Robert Armstrong sells 60 acres of this to William Pittman in 1764 (DB C, page 251)

William Pittman sells all 150 acres to Nathan Harris in 1765  (DB C, page 360)

SO John PIttman had the 150 acres as early as 1746, and the 60 acres in 1763.
He sold it all to Robert Armstrong in 1763.
Robert ARmstrong sold only 60 acres to William Pittman in 1764.
But William Pittman owns all 210 acres in 1765, when he sells it to Nathan Harris.

So we are missing the transaction from Armstrong to Pittman for 150 acres.  Seems odd he did not sell everything at the same time.
