This area has been of particular interest to me mostly because of my research of John Brown the Indian Trader. (which has been one of my most popular Pages for reasons I cannot grasp.) But whatever the case, it has intrigued me more-so because of its historical interest. I addended the map with the account of Lewis Williams and his kerfuffle with the “presumed” Meherrin Indians of the 1700ish era. Forgive me for my occasional references to “the Borg” (which came from the Star Trek TV series). The Borg are these fictional half human/ half robot “hivemind” creatures that travel all over hell and back just taking what they want and doing what they want (regardless of what the people being “taken” have to say about it). I cannot find a more fitting analogy for what happened to the collective Indegenes of America that that they were either “assimilated” or perished in their defiance. “Resistance was futile” is a factual statement in my view. All of this is not to declare that we Americans are “hiveminded” creatures that just take what we want …but it is also not to deny that that is sometimes the case (if you catch my drift). I think it is safe to say that the Indegenes of both Americas were “Borged”, to coin a word.
I will try to feed the histories as I research the area…comments are welcome… This is to get the ball rolling and to see if much interest is shown.
An odd name that threw me for a loop… who the hell was John Fierybent? He had some land near Deep Creek… but I have found no trace of a patent. This file is my start of research for one Anthony Lewis, whom I suspect is the son of Anthony Lewis (that orphant boy). This file also explains most of the Lewis Williams land as I see it.
This file is for those unfortunate folks like myself who just cannot walk past a 300 year old mystery without taking a sniff as if it were a flower. I think these are the kids of John Brown the Indian Trader. They are also closely linked with the family of Anthony Lewis (that orphant boy) who was the bastard kid of Bridgette Lewis who married John Brown Senior. This is deep into the weeds…..beware, you may get lost. This is not on the map yet…I did it out of some sort of odd desire to drive people nuts and share my OCD.
