Robert Gray clan of Edgecombe…

with one comment

A few of us have been tracking some deeds around the Walnut Creek area and I got entangled with some GRAY folks. Prior to his move to Edgecombe, Robert Gray was a sheriff in Surry Co., VA (1749).  I have not really studied the family other than this casual foray into some deeds. But as it might be of some interest to others, I offer this study for what it is worth.

  1. am working on genealogy back to my 3rd great grandfather : William B Anderson born about 1773 in or near Guilford North Carolina. Married to Ann Gillespie or( Gallaspie as some records spell it) about 1793. He moved to Sumner County Tennessee in the 1790s . HE is in the 1820 Census in Tennessee but after that no record of him or even his death/ burial place. His son Stinson Anderson born in 1800 near Gallatin TN. Stinson and several siblings all relocated to Southern Illinois . Stinson was in the Army in the Black Hawk War in 1832, the Seminole War in 1836/37 acquired a lot of land and go t into politics becoming Lt Governor of Illinois in 1838 Stinson , his mother Ann and several of Williams other children are all buried in Mt Vernon Illinois. I would like more info on William B , his father . I do not know when or where he died , if he is buried in Tennessee or Illinois as his wife and several children were . I am also found evidence that that William had a son Samuel Anderson who fought with Andrew Jackson against the Indians during the War of 1812 period. William may have also joined the Tennessee militia in 1812 – I am thinking that free land warrants/ grants offered as Army pensions may have been the motivation for moving to Illinois but uncertain . Any info or direction is appreciated . Robert Anderson anderson_i.s@sbcglobal.net
