  1. Wow. Please confirm/correct what I think I just ‘discovered’ from your brilliant (and all-too-uncommon on other research sites) mapping.

    When you reference Isle of Wight here on this site – are you referring to the area on the “western side” of the mouth of the James? The part where current Norfolk VA is?

    More and more evidence (from multiple, disconnected lines of research) keep leading right back to this spot. My “Anderson” matches Massachusetts Perkins – and if the Isle of Wight was eventually Virginia, rather than NC, then that group very likely also includes my Hales, Garlands and other families that lived south of the James – which I ‘assumed’ meant much further west – where the James runs roughly east/west rather than at the mouth…….

  2. This is the historical Isle of Wight, VA… across the James River from Jamestown. I gather the original patents from the Library of Virginia and then map them.

    This is the burned County of Nansemond… just south of Isle of Wight.
