Hi, I am related under William Anderson (1789) as well. How did you find your DNA connection to Brantley? Mine DNA match on Ancestry only goes to William and I cant see further. I love your writing style and last night laughed out loud 3 times to my husband’s annoyance. I love reading your work! Wendy Anderson (Washington, DC).

Thank you Wendy…
I did a DNA way back and got NO matches for Anderson folks (except a couple from Edgecombe)… kept getting Brantley hits and eventually contacted Ken Brantley (now passed sadly, great guy) he ran the Brantley Association…
Ken and I became email friends and I started mapping the Brantley line out of Isle of Wight, VA. It ran suspiciously close to the Anderson line (which is still a THEORY of mine)…that line is a George Anderson of IOW dated to 1695.
So…. there is no doubt I am a Brantley by YDNA blood (not Anderson).
Bottom Line… my current theory is a Brantley knocked up the daughter of a woman named Anderson who left a will in 1733 in NC.
That gal was the mother of the Wm Anderson d 1789 in Edgecombe. The whole enchilada tale is scattered over my site.
I desperately need more male DNA doners to Post on my site and validate that although I am a lowly, forsaken bastard outcast of the Brantley clan, we Andersons of Edgecombe can boast of at least ocassionaly staying married and not leaving helpless young maiden women stranded on the side of a trail in the woods of 1725 North Carolina with child… the Lout. I will not rest until I rat out the Brantley boy what knocked up my GGGGGGranny Anderson.

It is scattered all over your site but hard for an old teacher like myself to keep it straight.
I would be curious the Brantley names to see if I match with any of them.
So my story fits into yours but has a few new kinks. My GG grandfather is Josiah Anderson who married Mary Herndon in Orange County, NC where the rest of my Anderson side must have gone after Edgecomb.
His mothers name was Polly and father is unknown!!!!! Yet I DNA match to William/ Elizabeth and Henry and Lovisa…I will get this figured out but it would explain why we have Anderson name and also why the father’s line was illegitimate. I am a female but this tracks with what you wrote and my DNA findings. I will help with the hunt too, cousin!!!

Send me some details of how you track to Josiah… that sounds like the Micajah Anderson line (perhaps?)… but I need some clues…

And we need some male YDNA! BigY is best.

There was a Josiah Anderson in Edgecombe County. He married Eliza Freeman and died in 1868, without issue. As a result, his estate was divided among his siblings, one of them being Micajah. I am not aware of another Josiah. Can you give us some more information about your Josiah, and the possible Edgecombe connection? Thanks.

Josiah Anderson 5/10/21- 4/13/83 mother: Polly anderson and father unknown. He married Mary Herndon and did have issue that comes through right to me. I have DNA matches that originate in the William (1789) line.
