Henry Anderson, son of William Anderson d.1789
Henry Anderson, son of William d.1789
(mostly working notes of David Gammon)
1. He inherited land from his father outright, and was also a residual
heir of land after the death of his mother Mourning Anderson.
Mourning dies between 1800 and 1810.
2. He is listed as an adjoining landowner as early as 1794 (DB 7, p.
346 William Griffin to Geo. Anderson)
3. He was selling land as early as December 1795 (DB 8, p. 61, to Geo.
Anderson). This places his birth at no later than December 1774.
When we factor in census records, his birth was between 1770 and 1774.
4. He married Lovie Staton in 1799. Based on census records, she was
born between 1776 and 1784. She dies between 1820 and 1830.
5. They appear to have had the following children:
Daughter born about 1800
Daughter born between 1800 and 1810
Daughter born between 1800 and 1810
Daughter born between 1800 and 1810
Daughter born about 1810 (just after 1810 census)
Son born between 1810 and 1820 (James?)
Son Jesse Staton Anderson, born 1812
6. Henry either died between 1830 and 1840, or left Edgecombe County
between 1830 and 1840.

“Purported” son of the older Henry is Jesse Staton Anderson.
I found this will of his father-in-law Moses Todd in Wake County, NC 1841
Mention is made of Jesse Anderson (which places him there at least by 1841)

Moses Todd will
1841 Wake County, NC
(will starts lower right side of page… click to enlarge)
This is a settlement of the estate of Jesse Anderson of Wake County. The payments begin 1884 and on the
second page mention is made of the Administrator H.H. Anderson “to settle the estate of his intestate” which
I take to mean there was no will.
I still have not found proof that Jesse Anderson was a son of Henry Anderson of Edgecombe.
